Der Christchurch Adventure Park in Neuseeland zählt zu den größten und besten Bikeparks in der südlichen Heimsphäre. Tragischer weise wurde auch er Opfer der großflächigen Brände, die Christchurch im Februar heimsuchten.
Brände im Christchurch Adventure Park
Der Park ist immer noch geschlossen für die Öffentlichkeit und es besteht ein Flugverbot für Drohnen, da es bereits vorkam, dass diese im Einsatz befindliche Helikopter der Feuerwehr bei der Arbeit behinderten. Schaut man sich das Video von Rupert Chapman an, können vor dem Hintergrund schon mal gemischte Gefühle in einem hochkommen. Immerhin wurde der Park nicht zu Gänze zerstört und es bleibt zu hoffen, dass er eines Tages wieder komplett hergestellt sein wird.
Von der Facebookseite des Christchurch Adventure Parks haben wir folgendes Statement der Betreiber:
„The park remains in the hands of the fire authorities. At this stage we have been unable to get into the Park to do a full & proper assessment. What we do know, is that there is significant damage to the forest, chairlift, zip lines and infrastructure.
Once the fire authorities move out, then the focus will be on making the Park safe. Currently the risk of tree and rock fall hazards within the Park is very high and is extremely dangerous for anyone to enter.
Once the Park is made safe we will then be in a position to re-enter and we will be working with the insurance company to assess the extent of the damage. Only then will we know the full implications and for how long the park will be closed.
We are conscious that we have a number of people out there with passes and we would ask that you all bear with until we can complete the assessments with the insurance company. We will come back to you all at that stage.
